The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell — A favorite for 2008

The Tipping Point — Malcolm Gladwell — a 2008 favorite read for me.

How do I go into the way I enjoyed this book?  Some of the reading therapy is connected to the joy of having it come to me on recommendation from my daughter.  My kids are all  “book bonvivants” or maybe better said, “bonafide book freaks” and I’m so proud of it!

Anyway, back to THE TIPPING POINT written by Malcolm Gladwell.  You can see The Tipping Point at my Amazon store, on the “Review Favs” page. Even though my daughter quoted from it profusely while she was at my house,  I read it eagerly and found myself looking for tipping points in my world every where.

I’m told this book is an expanded magazine article that doesn’t impress everyone.  There can be no doubt that the theory is simply that — a theory, but it makes so darned much sense.

I would hope that you would get ahold of a copy and be mesmerized by the reports of how a social epidemic  has worked historically with the Influenza epidemic to the behavioral epidemics on New York Subways.   The behavioral connections that we assume influence people are not always the driving force.  Sometimes the studies showed something as simple as ‘directions’ could be the tipping point to a successful project.   I don’t want to spoil the book for you, but the part about college students and their response to the need for vaccination being connected to giving them directions to find the clinic and nothing more philosophical really impressed me.  Sometimes we make things SO difficult and miss what would really make this darn thing work!

Can you think what I want to get out of this? I want to be observant and aware of what is happening and what can be leveraging the moments of our days to certain directions or to other options.  I hate finding something like this book and having to confess that I never thought about that.

I quote it all the time…THE TIPPING POINT by Malcolm Gladwell (learn more at my Red Leaf Store) at the Review Favs section)  For all my reading in 2008, this little fast read has been one of the most influential.

Not everyone gives it a FIVE, but I do.  And I’m so humbled, but overjoyed to have a book that I can enjoy with one of my brilliant children!  Try it, you’ll like it!

I, too, read and enjoyed this book. It gives a new perspective into how easily and effortlessly directions change. It left an impression.

It has made conversation fodder for many of our family discussions.
