Bosnia Today | Jeffrey Warner | Sarajevo Evolution

by JudyAnn on February 3, 2010

Jeffrey Warner A Life Journey is a blog worth your attention. I won’t tell you that every post is one that I completely agree with or even endorse; A Life Journey is clearly the work of a professional journalist.   I ‘met’ Jeffrey in a freelance writer’s group at LinkedIn.   When he mentioned his experiences plus photography and writing regarding Bosnia TODAY , I was reminded that I (along with many others) hadn’t thought of the people of Bosnia, their suffering during the war nor what their present condition might be.

We’ve not had these folks on our media plate very much during the past 14 years, but don’t let the quiet convince you that they’ve healed. They have only survived. They are strong and they will heal, but they are not comfortable. Jeffrey writes of the infrastructure and cultural needs of a beautiful culture. His work is entitled Sarajevo Evolution — surely after so much destruction, the culture is moved back to the very beginnings and everything going forth will be a forward moving evolution.

Strangely, this part of the world was thriving under the plans of socialism. Now, when they so desperately have nothing and struggle for services and sustenance, the people wonder of the value that democracy offers.

Jeffrey is a sensitive journalist and photographer. He worked and volunteered in Bosnia after the war. Now he brings the story of the people in both words and the proverbial picture to the attention of the rest of the world. Looking for a publisher or publishing opportunity, Jeffrey has an excerpt of his work on his blog.

We may not be in a position to offer the publishing resource, but that only affects Jeffrey. Our memory needs to be stimulated to remember the people of Bosnia and what they’ve been through.

Sort of reminds me of the way we’ve been talking about being sure we don’t let people’s lives be filed away to gather dust. Especially the lives of people who suffered, who weren’t selfish criminals, who all lost too much to be forgotten. Bosnia, we wish for you more than ‘survive’; we wish for ‘Thrive!”
