Backing up valuable data with separate drives has been highly and wisely recommended by my colleagues at VAnetworking.com, leading online network for virtual assistants.

I use separate hard drives, Maxtor being my favorites.  I use disks of all conceivable formatting: floppies, Zips, CDs and DVDs.   I use little flash drives that hold more than the entire hard drive of my first internet compatible computer.  They are absolutely great.

I use offsite services to both protect and offer expanded access to photos and videos.

I maintain groups at various services with bandwidth for storing files, which also offers expanded access to other members.

But, when I have a file that I want to be SURE about, I email it to myself.  I use a service that doesn’t clear the inbox  server without my permission.  Then, I place the email in a folder that helps me track it.
